TacMed Solutions™ Gains Airworthiness Certification for US Army & Navy Airframes

Background

The TacMed™ Expeditionary Refrigerator (xFRIDGE™) provides refrigerated storage for temperature-sensitive payloads in a compact, easily portable configuration. The unique design uses TacMed's patented Miniature Refrigeration Technology™. The system operates on 12 VDC power, which can be sourced from a battery, vehicle, or solar panel. An on-board AC/DC converter also allows the system to accept 120/240 VAC wall power. The system contains on-board battery charging for BB-2590's using any of the input power options.

Requirements

For the U.S. Army, airworthiness approval is governed by the Systems Readiness Directorate (SRD) within DEVCOM Aviation & Missile Center. Products intended for use on Army aircraft must undergo a comprehensive engineering evaluation that includes detailed technical documentation, safety analysis, environmental qualification testing,
electromagnetic compatibility assessment, and structural integration review. The review process confirms that the system does not adversely affect aircraft performance, flight safety, or mission capability. Upon successful evaluation, the Army may issue an Airworthiness Release (AWR) authorizing the equipment for use on designated aircraft platforms. Similarly, the U.S. Navy manages airworthiness certification through the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). Equipment intended for installation or operation on Navy or Marine Corps aircraft must comply with NAVAIR airworthiness policies and undergo a structured technical review process. This process typically includes system safety assessments, flight clearance evaluations, environmental and vibration testing, software and hardware verification, and documentation demonstrating compliance with applicable military standards. Once requirements are met, NAVAIR may issue a Flight Clearance or Airworthiness Approval for the equipment.

Results
