K9 Diesel Team Honored with Modeling and Simulation Award at I/ITSEC 2018

TraumaFX K9 Diesel

TraumaFX, a division of Kforce Government Solutions, Inc. (KGS) and a leading global provider of advanced, ruggedized human and canine medical training simulators, today announced that the company, along with USSOCOM SOF AT&L and an extended team, were honored by the National Training and Simulation Association with the Modeling & Simulation Acquisition Team Award for the collaborative development of the K9 Diesel advanced medical trainer. Awards were presented last night at the M&S Awards Dinner held at the Hyatt Regency Orlando in conjunction with the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC).

Each year, the NTSA M&S Awards are presented to individuals or teams for outstanding achievements in the development or application of models and simulations. TraumaFX and team were recognized for outstanding achievement in government-industry collaborative development and fielding of a new medical simulation capability to better meet the unique training needs of Special Operations. The project leveraged an existing contract vehicle through industry partner Information International Associates, and incorporated iterative development and feature refinement processes with K9 team users - including representatives from United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC), Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), and United States Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC).

“Since TraumaFX began, we have worked in close partnership with government customers to improve medical simulation capabilities and to develop new products to meet the needs of thier missions,” said Carolyn Hollander, Vice President at KGS TraumaFX. “To be recognized for those efforts, along with our extended team for K9 Diesel, is truly an honor.”

TraumaFX K9 Diesel Simulator

K9 Diesel is an advanced medical simulation trainer that improves the ability of first responders and veterinary professionals to save working dogs’ lives. The simulator includes 28 different features and medical intervention sites. Diesel’s miniaturized technologies and other features represent a quantum leap in animatronic-based high fidelity trauma simulators. Canine vocalization and newly developed manufacturing processes to create hyper realistic airway anatomy, quick-connect interchangeable limbs plumbed with sensor and fluid lines, and autonomous response to treatment are state of the art characteristics that set Diesel apart as a patient simulator. Building on technology first developed in TraumaFX human patient simulators allowed creation of the first canine Gastric Volvulus (bloat) simulator capable of being needle decompressed.  Like its predecessors, Diesel provides objective performance feedback to both the learner and the instructor that can be used to predict readiness. Clinical improvements also allow the capability to reach beyond first responder training to realistically meet higher-level veterinary medicine requirements.

TraumaFX products are now sold under the TacMed Simulation brand. It joins TacMed Medical and TacMed Protection as a suite of complimentary products for the continuum of pre-hospital patient care.
